Choosing Wood Flooring Or Carpet?

Flooring is an important part of the interiors of any house. Flooring not only vital to the design of the house but it also goes a long way in determining. A house is put together after a lot of integrated and synchronised efforts; people obviously want only the best flooring for their homes. 

Why is flooring important?
Good flooring enhances the look of the house by creating sync between the furniture and other décor of the house. Flooring also provides an element of comfort to the home. This why selecting the right kind of flooring becomes all the more important. There are a number of flooring types available in the market ranging from ceramic and laminate to wood and carpet flooring. The most prominent among these is wood and carpet flooring. These are the two prominent options that people consider while thinking about which kind of flooring to select for their homes.

What is wood and carpet flooring?
In simple words, wooden flooring is when any wooden material is used as flooring. To some extent bamboo flooring is also considered as a part of wood flooring even though technically bamboo is a grass. Wooden flooring is generally available in two types-

• Solid: It refers to planks of wood made out of a single timber piece.

• Engineered: Engineered wood flooring is wooden flooring made up of two layers of planks. The top layer is the visible one while the bottom layer consists of the core. 
Carpet flooring is when the floor surface is covered with a carpet. Carpet flooring falls under textile flooring that is to say it is a case where a textile material is used as a covering for the floor.

Wood vs. carpet flooring…which is better?
A number of factors have to be considered while deciding upon what is better? Wooden or carpet flooring; the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of flooring should be carefully evaluated in light of their comparative advantage or disadvantage over each other.

Hardwood flooring increases the resale value that is the value at which the house can be sold in the future. Carpet floored homes are not given much preference by buyers in this regard. Hardwood floorings are times easier to clean than carpet flooring. In case of hardwood flooring a normal cleanser and a piece of cloth can do the trick. The greatest advantage of hardwood floorings is that they have an element of durability attached to them which is not available with carpet flooring which is quite easily spoilt when constantly exposed to direct sun or moisture. There are a number of disadvantages associated with hardwood flooring as well. It has a very high price compared to carpet flooring which comes way cheaper. Harwood floors create a lot of noise and are prone to damage. 

Carpet though a traditional mode of flooring has its own merits and demerits. Carpet flooring is cheaper than hardwood flooring and it can be easily installed too. Its softness adds an element of comfort which is absent with hardwood flooring. However the carpet flooring presents problems in regard to cleaning and reselling of the house. It can also accumulate dust particles and lead to allergies.

Thus each of the flooring options has its own set of merits and demerits to offer. These all should be given due consideration before deciding upon the method of flooring to choose.
